Hornets are close relatives to both wasps and yellowjackets. They even get mixed up with them rather often. With over twenty two kinds of species recognized worldwide, this insect makes for a very specific pest to capture, because:
- hornets are known for being exceptionally aggressive when guarding their exposed nests
- bites by hornets are considerably more hazardous to people than those of bees
- hornets often create their nests close to human homes
- hornet attack pheromone is extremely contagious and lets know the whole nest to sting in defense.
