Ticks & Fleas

Identification, treatment, & prevention information.

ABOUT THE PEST

Identifying Ticks & Fleas

Ticks and Fleas are both small, insidious insects that are found on animals (and sometimes humans). Both of these species bite their host, with ticks remaining in one place and continually consuming the blood of the host animal. Over time, both of these insects can be very dangerous to the health of the host animal - ticks can also cause serious health issues in humans if bitten.

Where Ticks are Found

Fleas are very small and often difficult to spot with the naked eye. They are wingless, and usually measure 1mm to 10mm, though they are almost always at the smaller end of the scale. They have a compressed body and long back legs, which allow them to jump. Ticks have a round, flat body and usually measure around 4mm to 6mm long. They can be found in moist, shady parts of the garden, especially if leaf litter is around.

Both of these insects must be dealt with quickly, and ticks in particular can be very harmful to animals and humans. At Oracle Services, we’re experts in dealing with flea and tick infestations.

Tick & Fleas Prevention Tips

Marker

Inspect your pets

It’s important to regularly inspect your pets for fleas and ticks. If they are scratching more than often, they may be carrying some unwanted passengers. This also applies to their bedding.

Marker

Vacuum consistently

Regular vacuuming throughout your home will help to remove any stray fleas or ticks that have found their way inside.

Marker

Keep on top of pet treatments

Make sure you are keeping up to date with your pets flea and tick treatments, to prevent any flea or tick infestations.

Marker

Wash pet bedding

Wash your pets bedding on a regular basis to remove any fleas that may be living on the bedding, or within the stuffing.

Marker

Mow lawn regularly

If your lawn is too long, it may well attract ticks. They thrive in long grass, so keeping your lawn trim is a must.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the most common questions we get asked about pest control for ticks and fleas in Australia.

Ticks and fleas are attracted to areas with plenty of moisture, as well as foliage and long grass. They will then latch onto passing animals, which provide a food source for both species. Fleas also like soft surfaces like clothing or bedding.
Preventative measures such as tick treatments for pets are the best approach. Once an infestation has taken hold, insecticide sprays are the most effective approach.
